​​​Art Therapy - Why Painting, Perspective and You ARE the perfect combination

 

Painting, crafts, drawing, photography, writing, yes there are many paths to helping your brain to go on a mini vacation. For many people any form of art allows the science of the brain to reduce stress, blood pressure and other metabolic stressors. There are numerous research studies that demonstrate the overall improvement in health through artistic endeavors.

 

Perspective is significantly increased by those that use any of these formats to allow themselves to relax and leave all the distractors behind for a while. You can actually feel your mind relax. This prompts colors and creativity to move forward in your life experiences. Some people even say that the opposite side of your daily brain takes over. Soon you will find that colors, clouds, details of trees, the ocean and other features of your surroundings become more meaningful and enjoyable. The awareness of the beauty around is also something that is fun to share through your own work or just by enjoying the sunrise and sunsets of your day with others.

 

Artistic by nature – from insight to action!

 

Some people are artistically endowed from an early age and others like me are on a journey to discover many creative outlets. For decades I had a job that dealt with human lives that were tragically changed. This takes a toll for sure on me and my team mates. Findings wasys to be resilent was a quest.

 

There are all types of jobs that can overpower our positive brain from financial specialties to medical providers to business owners, parents, caretakers, you name it as it is the person’s own journey. No one has it cornered for sure. We all have the ability to find the colors of our lives and make them sparkle.

 

My journey began one day when I realized how often I visited a favorite store on the way home. This shop was full of colored materials, paintings, photography and gifts. I remember just stopping and looking at all the colors around me. I realized that my mind was relaxing and I could actually feel a strong sense of joy.My first artistic endeavors as an adult were with macro photography. This is awesome but for me I felt like I needed more of a hands on process.

 

I always admired people who could paint. I went to my first oil painting class. The class was a Bob Ross workshop (Special Thank you to Bernie O.). We painted a large flower. Yes similar to “macro photography” but a much longer and creative experience blending colors and seeing it come to life. That was over 10 years ago now and it changed my life, health and happiness. I became a CRI-CRFI (Certified Bob Ross Instructor and a Certified Bob Ross Floral Instructor). I have always loved teaching and sharing the Joy of watching others find a positive way to destress.

 

I love new artists that have never painted before. They always have some of the best results. Those that are more seasoned often share their insights and some pictures of their favorite work with our new friends. One of the most common inquiries of new students is how can they be successful if they “can’t even draw a stick figure”. I respond by, that’s great you will be right at home, neither can I !!!
